DC Fun!

Amanda and I had a fun weekend! Our friend, JT, from MSU came to visit! Well, he was sent here by his employer for work, but we had all day yesterday to hang out! It was really fun! We picked him up from the airport and drove right into DC.

We started off the day at Five Guys, a wonderful burger joint. We had a big day ahead of us, so it was good to eat some delicious burgers. Then we went to the National Aquarium...sort of. The National Aquarium is apparently semi-large, but is located in Baltimore. This was much smaller and in the middle of DC, not far from the White House. I told my friends at work about it this morning and nobody had heard of it! It must be very new, since nobody knew about it, plus it didn't seem completely finished. Lots of the exihibits were being touched up and were empty.

After we left there we walked over toward the Washington Monument and walked up the National Mall. We walked passed the Washington Monument to the WWII memorial, which was very neat. Adjacent to that is the famous reflecting pool, running between the Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. We walked along the path which had a canopy of Japanese Cherry Blossoms, a very beautiful walk.

Then we sat on the front of the Lincoln Memorial which was luckily covered in shade. It was very hot and we took a well deserved rest. We went inside and I was very impresed with the place. Naturally I had seen it in pictures and movies but I was very excited to be there. I felt very proud to be American standing there before the bohemoth statue. The only thing more moving than the sheer magnitude of the statue and building were the words on walls.

From here we left and stumbled upon the Vietnam memorial, which was very cool. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was very beautiful. We walked back towards the car at this point but decided we'd try to swing through a Smithsonian Museum if we could, since it was JT's first time to DC and he only had the one day for personal fun. We walked through two of the exihibits in the Museum of Natural History. It's my favorite museum and there's tons of amazing things to see. We walked through the hall of Mammals, which is very large and fun to go through. Lastly, JT wanted to walk through the Dinosaur exhibit, so we did. It's all very interesting, but by this time we were wiped.

We left DC and went back to our neck of the woods. We ate a Thai restaurant that's adjacent to our apartment complex. It was very good. We wrapped up the night with a movie, and then we took JT to his hotel in Roslyn, VA. We got home, went right to bed and slept like rocks! I was so beat I couldn't get up on time this morning, but it all worked out. I worked my whole day, met amanda back home and had a nice quiet night.

It was fun, I'm really glad I finally got to see some of the monuments! Amanda's parents are coming to town in October and I hope we do a similar day. It'll be nice because it will be much cooler, I hope! :)

Until next time! :)
